Catskill Choral Society Girl Choir

Catskill Choral Society Girl Choir

The Girl Choir welcomes girls ages 8-18 who have a love for choral singing. Rehearsals are held 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoons at the Hartwick College Anderson Center. Students need not prepare audition pieces but will be heard individually for placement by the director, Laura Hamwey, vocal music director at Worcester Central School and Catskill Choral Society member.

The Catskill Choral Society (CCS) Girl Choir was formed in 1998 to provide area girls the delights of singing a variety of music. Girl Choir members receive professional instruction in voice, musical terminology, and reading skills. In addition they perform a wide range of fine and challenging choral music. Members gain self-confidence and poise in concert performances, learn cooperation and teamwork, and experience the thrill of singing beautiful music.

The Girl Choir presented its premiere performance in the spring of 1999 at St. Mary's Church in Oneonta, under the direction of Kathleen Slavinsky. Since then they have performed at the Community Christmas Carol, the Candlelight Evening at The Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown, at the Wieting Theatre in Worcester and on numerous occasions with the Catskill Choral Society.
